MMA Press Conference of “Survey on Labor Mobility of Macau Citizens 2019”

Sponsored by Macau Foundation, the press conference of “Survey on Labor Mobility of Macau Citizens 2019” was held at 12:30 p.m. on December 6, hosted by Mr. Tommy Lau, Council Chairman of MMA, and Dr. Kevin Lei, MMA Project Consultant.

The survey reveals that over 60% of respondents have been in their current jobs for less than four years, and over 64% of them has never been promoted. Compare to 2016, the salary of respondents have fallen significantly. The largest percentage of respondents receive salary under MOP 10,000. Over 70% of respondents believe that the current employment situation is average or not optimistic.

In addition, only 12.7% of respondents are willing to seek for development opportunities in the Greater Bay Area. The survey recommends the government could increase resources to centralize funding for working people to take professional certification courses. Also, the government could increase enterprises’ knowledge of employment awareness in the Greater Bay Area. Enterprises could develop a complete wage level and reward system, and establish channels for employers and employees to express their opinions.

Mr. Tommy Lau stated that the survey aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the latest employment mobility status and trends in Macau, which could be a reference for the government and enterprises.
