GEG·YAP Hosts Portuguese Egg Tart Baking Experience to Inspire Career Paths

The event featured Chef Daniel Chio, Sous Chef of Galaxy Macau and the first Macao chef selected for the United Nations’ “Young Chefs Programme”. Chef Chio shared his professional journey from local baking enthusiast to international pastry chef, inspiring participants to leverage local culture to build a competitive edge in their careers.

During the session, Chef Chio detailed his career milestones and core keys to success, emphasizing sustainable culinary practices and hands-on experience. He highlighted how Macao’s rich food heritage and traditional craftsmanship serve as a continuous source of inspiration for his modern pastry creations—a blend that defines his signature style on the global stage. Encouraging the youth, he urged them to maintain a strong connection to their cultural roots and a lifelong passion for learning, regardless of their chosen industry, to transform cultural heritage into professional success.

A major highlight of the event was an interactive Portuguese Egg Tart baking workshop, celebrating a classic local delicacy officially inscribed on Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2025. Under Chef Chio’s direct guidance, participants gained hands-on experience crafting and tasting their own tarts. Combining expert insights with practical experience, the workshop allowed young adults to discover the precision, passion, and craftsmanship required in the culinary arts while deepening their understanding of professional dedication.
